What makes teak outdoor furniture the best?

What Makes Teak Outdoor Furniture the Best?

Teak wood was used for shipbuilding since the middle Ages, and it became popular in outdoor furniture manufacturing since the 19th century.  While dismantling World War I warships, the people from the British Navy noticed that the teak decks were intact, due to its resistance to salt water and durability, and decided to use them for manufacturing benches for the public English parks and other parts to reconstruct other ships.

Teak was intensively used since in the shipbuilding industry (for trims, decks and other ship applications), for the construction of houses, flooring, cabinetry, paneling or resistant outdoor furniture.  Indigenous to Asia countries, particularly from Thailand and
India, it is also grown on plantations developed around the natural growing environment of the wild teak trees.  In order to maintain the ecological balance, there were established severe policies regarding the number of teak trees that will be used for exports and the techniques of reforestation that can protect the environment and produce high quality teak wood.

When it comes to outdoor furniture teak is the best possible choice.  It is a chore for the people who buy outdoor furniture to move it in the basement or cover it in order to prevent the weather to create any damages in the structure of the furniture made out of metal, plastic or other types of wood.  The persons who have teak outdoor furniture don’t have to face such problems, because the wood of teak furniture resists in left outside on any kind of weather.  The durability and the resistance of teak are given by the resinous oils which prevent the water to infiltrate in the wood structure and cause rotting, warping or shrinking.  The soil where the teak grows has a high concentration of minerals and oils, and Silica is one of them, the element that gives the teak wood a rubbery aspect and the waterproof quality. The same oils generate the density of the teak wood structure that creates a thermal stability and prevents it from warping.

There are cases when people think they buy teak furniture but they buy other woods that obviously don’t have the same qualities of the genuine teak.  It is a common situation to mistake teak furniture with inferior wood furniture such as the Shorea wood or the Nyatoah.  Those types of wood belong to the Class 3 of woods, and they are easily affected by the water, insects or cracking, while the teak wood is a Class 1 wood and extremely durable and strong.

The difference between the false teak furniture and the genuine one is that the manufacturers might try to fool you by applying teak oil on other types of wood furniture and claim that it’s teak furniture.  The oil might have an effect on a short period of time, adding some resistance and durability, but finally the furniture will begin to show its flaws.  The genuine teak outdoor furniture can be left outside for years and it will not be affected by the weather, nor crack or twist.

The qualities of the teak furniture have made it the most exquisite outdoor furniture available.  This love and appreciation for the teak wood is nothing new, because the teak was used for centuries.  There are a large number of teak furniture products, including teak tables, teak patio furniture, teak benches or indoor teak furniture.   No matter what you will choose for your garden or patio, you can be sure that the teak furniture will last more than other types of outdoor furniture and will merge with the surrounding landscape in a wonderful manner.

INTERIOR DESIGN- HOW DO WE CHOOSE RUGS?

HOW DO WE CHOOSE RUGS ?

Rugs have always been a fascinating subject and for many, buying  such a decorative  object   might be a bigger challenge than buying a sofa or a living room furniture . And that is because of the huge number of types of rugs that can be found in stores and the fact that the best rugs are made in certain foreign countries , known only to specialists .

You will not find many things written about rugs accessible to ordinary people .  In books about the history of interior decorations , rugs are almost neglected and their presence is mentioned briefly among the furniture , textiles and other elements . The same situation we encounter in the interior design magazines . So , what can we do ? How do we choose ? Should we buy a weaned rug or a knotted rug ? a rug that was made manually or one that has been made mechanically ? And you know, that is why we should not wonder why so many people choose the carpets ….But we all know that a well chosen rug can give the personality of the room, no matter the size or the style of it .

For example, a rug with an artistic value can be the  starting point in the decoration of a room . The curtains , the textiles in the room can be chosen according to the colors of the rug . Or the rug can be the unifying element of the different colors matched in the decoration of the room .

So, when we buy a rug we must think first at the comfort and then at the decorative value , which gives a room the impression of warmth and intimacy . The rugs have a well known function : functionally, they attenuate the disturbing air currents , that can be formed due to the lack of air-tightness of doors and windows , and they absorb the noises .

What should we have in mind when we intend to buy a rug : first, we must not put in the same room different styles of rugs unless one of them repeats or it matches perfectly with a decorative element that the other has . On a dark floor it is adequate to put a rug with a  light tonality . Big rugs can be placed together only if they have matching styles and colors . If we decide to place more rugs in only one room , we must make sure that we will obtain a perfect harmonization of the colors, textures and sizes . A small room will seem small if we place there a small rug ; if we choose a big rug there , the room will seem bigger .

Now, use these tips and go and find yourself the perfect rug or carpet for your own home style !
